- Much higher resolution, from four megapixels up to 4K and beyond
- A single network cable carries both power and data through PoE, roughly halving the cabling work

- Easier expansion, since a camera joins the network rather than a dedicated port
Where NVR stumbles
Upfront cost is higher and it needs a properly configured network. XVR: the hybrid
An XVR accepts both types: analogue cameras over coaxial cable and IP cameras over the network on the same unit.
